Owl doorstop

Using this brilliant pattern for crocodile stitch in the round as a starting point I recently made this owl doorstop. I completed the crocodile stitch bag pattern as written (without beads) for 6 rows of feathers and then switched to double crochet (sc for you American’s out there) into the back stitch only for many rounds to form the head. Towards the top of the head I used longer stitches at either end so pointy ears were formed, then on the last round I made a couple of loops to go around buttons on the back of the head to close the top (then the stuffing can easily be taken out and the cover washed).

I made two basic flat circles for eyes and a little triangle for a beak then sewed them on with buttons for pupils. the last touch was extra yarn tied to the “ears” to form tufts. I stuffed this with a heavy weight wrapped in an old jumper and a white pillow case to keep it all together.
